smartest bet in horse racing

Most horse racing punters have certain types of race that they prefer to stick to for betting purposes.

I would like to hear OLBG members' thoughts on the best types of race to bet on and which types of bet to make. I find handicap betting the best form of race to bet on because they are nearly always competitive races meaning competitive odds are offered. I also like the fact that it all comes down to a number.

A horse's official rating and whether or not the horse is better than that rating. Personally I like to bet on lightly raced handicappers that have run in strong handicaps previously but whatever the method of picking winners.

I think handicaps are the best betting medium and I think for most punters it's probably the same. There are many different conditions to consider, distance, going and draw some of the most obvious but also pace bias and track bias are important factors these days. I also dabble in classier contests, Group races and to a lesser extent listed races but only when I think there is a value bet.

We quite often get short-priced favourites in these types of race and conditions are against those favourites more often than many would think allowing decent bets to be had on slightly bigger priced runners in the same events who have conditions in their favour. There isn't always as much value in group contests as handicaps but that is usually reflected in the relative ease in which group races can be figured out.

There is often very little form to go on when betting in maiden races, it makes winner finding much trickier. In maidens, I find there is often too little form on offer in the better class contests to allow me to draw strong enough conclusions.

As for sellers and claimers, the horses dropping into these races are usually well exposed and out of form which doesn't make a great betting race in my eyes. If you are interested in finding winners who isn't? please check out How To Find Winners - Tips To Choose A Winning Horse Racing Bet.

Updated: Feb 15, 30 Motor Racing. It could be poor form, or it could be based on track type or the ground conditions. Although it is important to remember that bookies will keep this in mind when setting their odds, they have no influence on how a horse actually runs.

It requires an individual to place a bet on a horse to win and to finish in a specific place. So many like to adopt this strategy because a lot can happen in a race at any one time.

A horse may have a lead for the vast majority of the race, but if they start to tire as they approach the final stretch, other horses can gather momentum and start to pass it when it really matters as they have managed to bide their time.

In order to maximize any potential success, it can be wise to follow the trainers who are in-form and can not do anything but win. Periods of success for some trainers often come in spells and once they get their first, many follow immediately after. Bookmakers will recognize when a trainer or stable is in-form and producing winners, so it can be best to try and get in early when using this strategy to increase the value and profitability that is possible to be had.

One of the types of bets that many horse race bettors know about — but do not always use — is each way betting. It is a strategy that can be extremely effective, as it offers punters multiple places in which they can still achieve a winner. Bookmakers are starting to offer more places than ever with their each way betting to get more involved.

In some instances, the biggest races with large fields could see a winning bet be paid when a horse finishes sixth or seventh when the each way method is utilized. It can be more expensive, and not always be the most profitable in the immediate present, but it can offer shrewd payouts over a sustained period.

The five mentioned are among just some of the best horse race betting strategies that are possible to utilize to try and maximize any chance of winning a wager. However, remember that applying one or more of the strategies is no guarantee of success and to bet responsibly at all times.
